La bicicletta, oggetto del desiderio di tutti i bambini e un problema in più per noi genitori. Già, perché come per tutti gli altri accessori, si pone la classica domanda: quale scegliere? Un problema che con Supernano abbiamo affrontato una prima volta quando aveva 3 anni, per la sua prima bicicletta, e una seconda volta proprio in questi giorni, visto che la prima bici era ormai diventata troppo piccola.
I modelli sul mercato sono davvero tanti e divisi in base all’età del bambino in modo da facilitare la scelta. Ci sono biciclette ispirate ai personaggi dei cartoni animati (Ben10, Gormiti, Dragon Ball, Hello Kitty, Barbie…) o addirittura con i colori delle squadre di calcio. Quindi la scelta è molto ampia. A parte l’aspetto estetico, comunque non di poco conto trattandosi di un articolo per bambini, ci sono altri aspetti più importanti da valutare da parte di noi genitori.
Le dimensioni della bicicletta
Per la scelta delle dimensioni corrette non bisogna guardare l’età del bambino, ma ovviamente la sua statura. Per questo motivo, dal momento che i bambini tendono a crescere rapidamente, è bene che la bicicletta sia ben proporzionata al bambino che la deve condurre, anche se il sellino e il manubrio sono in genere regolabili in altezza e quindi adattabili perfettamente.
I produttori di biciclette hanno stabilito delle tabelle indicative che rapportano l’altezza del bambino alle dimensioni (in pollici) delle ruote:
- 12″: per bambini di altezza da 71 a 97 cm.
- 16″: per bambini di altezza da 97 a 122 cm.
- 20″: perbambini di altezza da 122 a 152 cm.
Importante è la regolazione in altezza del sellino e del manubrio. Il bambino deve riuscire a toccare i piedi per terra in modo da riuscire a mantenere un equilibrio stabile e riuscire a impugnare il manubrio assumendo una postura corretta per riuscire a pedalare agevolmente senza fare movimenti innaturali.
Accessori
Non di poco conto sono gli accessori a corredo della bicicletta. Alcuni indispensabili, altri meno ma sempre importanti dal punto di vista pratico
- Le rotelle, ovviamente indispensabili se il bambino è ancora inesperto
- I parafanghi anteriori e posteriori, assolutamente necessari dal momento che uno dei divertimenti maggiori per i bambini è passare con la bicicletta nelle pozzanghere
- Il cestino portaoggetti, non indispensabile ma utile per metterci i vari oggetti che i bambini si portano appresso
- Le luci o i semplici catarifrangenti, necessari se si va per strada al buio
- Borraccia, utile dal momento che pedalando e sudando ai bambini viene sempre sete
- Il caschetto protettivo, molto importante per evitare traumi alla testa in caso di caduta. Deve essere omologato (deve avere un’etichetta con la sigla EN1078) e tenuto sempre bene allacciato
Quando togliere le rotelle
Non c’è un momento preciso per stabilire quando è il momento per togliere le rotelle. Importante è non forzare il bambino a provare insistentemente (magari per invidia verso chi è già capace ad andare senza). Ogni bambino ha i suoi tempi e in genere sono loro a chiedere di toglierle. Supernano ha fatto proprio così, dopo qualche tentativo sporadico, un bel giorno ha deciso che voleva provare ad andare da solo senza rotelle (aveva circa 4 anni): metro dopo metro, senza nessun aiuto da parte mia, nel giro di mezz’ora era già in giro a sfrecciare per il parco!
